It’s the Weekend-Time for a Movie!

Friday, June 29th, 2007
Have some fun in the shade (yep, it’s a sweltering 108F in Las Vegas this weekend), grab something yummy and frosty and check out this fun Brit import called “Confetti” at my Amazon “Concierge Book Cafe” .
Say “I do” to this hilarious “mockumentary” about a trio of wacky couples who vow to win the coveted title of “Most Original Wedding of the Year.” The dueling duos include the tuneless Matt (Martin Freeman) and Sam (Jessica Stevenson) whose unfortunate wedding theme is Hollywood musicals; the hypercompetitive tennis partners Josef (Steven Mangan) and Isabelle (Meredith MacNeil), and the outrageously uninhibited nudists Michael (Robert Webb) and Joanna (Olivia Colman). At stake is a million-dollar dream home, but can love survive in the midst of unbridled prenupital chaos?”-Amazon Bookstore

I giggled all the way through and the funny thing is, there really is a “Confetti” Magazine and Website (I just had to link in pink) in England! It makes it even more hilarious and i get a kick out of their sense of irreverance.

Enjoy and Have a Stylish Weekend!

Making it Happen! It’s What I Do-& I LOVE IT!

Friday, June 29th, 2007

One of the most rewarding (of many) aspects of my job is when I can make something wonderful happen for my couples that will cause them to break out into “The Happy Dance”!

I’m a firm believer in being very conservative in the initial stages of planning so that you plan your budget, your venue and wedding element options based on how many people you are inviting (which always tends to be more than the actual number of guests that you are hoping will actually attend).

Doing this ensures you are basing your costs on elements & options that you know you can afford until you can be sure of the exact numbers. And then, when the final guest count comes in, is there the room to be flexible and start having some fun (and I love having fun as much as you, trust me!)

Today, as we gear up for an early September wedding, that patience paid off when I was able to re-think a space for a wedding that turned out to to be smaller than anticipated. We cut the ballroom space in half and therefore increased what we could do for my clients with their floral and decor budget (and most likely their food and beverage budget will benefit too if they so choose).

And their reward (and mine) is that they will be able to have 99.9% of everything they envisioned for their wedding for a very STYLISH celebration.

So I was able to make my bride, and groom too of course, do the “Happy Dance” today and I am doing it right along with them in spirit!:)

Making it Happen for my clients is what I can do for you as Your Las Vegas Wedding Concierge & wedding planner and why I Love What I Do!

Have a wonderful and Stylish Weekend!

When Planning Your Event, Make sure to "Book it Right"

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Some good Wedding Advice from Your Wedding Concierge…

When you are considering booking the venue and package for your reception, don’t forget to “Book it Right” as my friend Andy Ebon would say. Andy has been involved in the wedding and event business in a variety of of capacities since 1977 including owning very succesfful mobile DJ entertainment companies, and as a marketing and communications consultant to businesses in the wedding & hospitality industry.

So what does “Booking it Right” mean you ask? It means knowing and booking the correct amount of time for your wedding based on the particular service style, details & amount of ceremonies involved as well as the number of guests so that there is a comfortable flow of events within the time frame.

Not every wedding can be put into the category of a “4 or 5 hour reception package”. Sometimes 4 hours is not enough and sometimes 5 hours is too much time.

If you are having a cultural wedding with 300 people serving a 4 course plated meal plus all the traditional & cultural wedding ceremonies & dancing, you should consider extending the event an hour..maybe 2!

On the other hand, that 5 hour reception package you love may be more time than you need for your less formal cocktail party of 75-100 so ask your catering manager if you can have the same package and food options for 4 hours instead?

When you have the proper amount of time for you or your wedding planner to create an effective timeline, it should allow for everyone to mingle, dine, take part in all the traditions and celebrate until their feet hurt and leave happy when the wedding is over.

Your wedding planner, catering manager and entertainment specialist should all be consulted on the best way to “Book it Right” at your event and coordinate an effective timeline for a great and memorable wedding celebration!

Inspiration to Design Your Wedding & Decorate Your Life

Friday, June 15th, 2007

I do love all the different wedding publications out there like INSIDE WEDDINGS, The Bride & Bloom and Grace Ormond Wedding Style for wedding decor inspiration, but often, a great deal of my inspiration comes from other sources like home decor and furniture stores and magazines.

Unusual you say? Not so much!!! Because so many weddings are taking their receptions to new heights in making guests feel comfortable, brides & grooms, along with their event planners & designers are creating temporary “living” spaces for their weddings that are reflections and miniature versions of the couples living spaces or ideal living lifestyle.
So what better places to turn to for ideas than some of these fabulous stores, decor companies and magazines to inspire you in designing your stylish wedding and current home or the one to come.
Here are some of my latest favorites and I believe in sharing the Love:) The resources range from from very very high end to inexpensive (you have to dig to find the diamonds) but proves that a great style can be acheived at any budget:). Mindy Weiss-Celebrity Party Planner Interview on Glam Network

Monday, June 4th, 2007
I love the Glam Network! and the “Glam Flash” weekly newsletters they send me. They keep me up to date on everything that is stylish:).
This week, Glam Network interviewed Celebrity Wedding & Party Planner Mindy Weiss to get her advice on how to host a great party and wedding. You can check it out here!
That Mindy is a smart lady as she agrees with everything that I reccomend as well!! No seriously:) When asked what is the one thing couples should never skimp on for the wedding, Mindy replies “Good Photography”. See, she agrees with me!! I would have also said a good wedding videographer within your budget as well. To me, the two go hand in hand as there are many moments that, as great as photography as, can never capture that emotional toast from your father or grandfather, the thrill of dancing your first dance which you spent endless weekends rehearsing or hearing yourselves saying “I Do” again:) with photography.
Her answer to best planning tip?…”Figure out cost of food and beverage first”. Right answer Mindy:) Since your food and beverage costs (plus service charge and tax calculated on both) is 50% of your wedding budget, ensure that your budget covers for the number of guests you plan to invite and not the number you HOPE will show up. If you plan to invite 100 guests, you should budget for 100 guests up front and continue planning the rest of your budget from there. Great News-If you wind up having less guests, then you can use that extra money to upgrade certain elements later (or pocket it for your honeymoon!)
And finally, they asked Mindy what is the number 1 thing couples should remember when planning their wedding? Mindy said “compromise”.
I agree with Mindy to a certain extent-Yes, understand that you and your groom, your families and his all have expectations and, as much as this is “your day”, it is a day that is a celebration of the two of you and a day of pride for your families too. If some portion of the wedding day is paid for by family, there will be compromise. It’s a good exercise to practice now during the engagement period for the rest of your marriage, believe me!!!:) “Pick your battles” as they say and learn to recognize what is most important to you and what you are and are not willing to compromise on when it comes to dealing with family and with your wedding professionals.
And my best piece of wedding advice that I’m sure any planner, celebrity or otherwise would agree…ENJOY the experience. Yes, it’s a whirlwind of activity and decisions, etc. but it does go by so fast. Hire a great and responsible planner who meets your budget, expectations and who you feel you can trust to plan and direct your wedding day according to your vision and make you feel comfortable, and then enjoy the ride:)!!
